Evidence that Fran's holiday in Tenby was spent productively

Here are some random, trivial and pointless observations from last week's holiday in Tenby, Wales, accompanied by some pictures.  Anyone expecting sea views, fields and cute farm animals hasn't been visiting this blog for very long.

Spot the two words which do NOT belong together in the same phrase.  Who are they kidding?

I saw this in the window of a church.  I swear we live in a post-Spelling society.
(Not really.  It was a sign in the window of a
shoe-menders.)

I was confused at first, because my hands are a kind of fleshy pink colour and I wasn't sure how I was meant to
dry them if the towels were only for the blue of hand.

I was fascinated to find on an old list of stalls from 1892 at a Tenby market that 'beeves' was used as a plural for 'cow' just as 'calves' was used as a plural for 'calf'.  I felt unnerved that this fascinated me, but couldn't deny that it did.

Look what it says in brackets
by the word 'Foot' for the bit of our journey where we had to walk from one station to another.

This pizza restaurant promises that it serves 'nothing frozen or nasty'.  I do like that kind of reassurance from a restaurant.

This is nothing to do with Tenby.  I'm so bad at staying on topic.
This is our second grandchild, Phoebe

    1. Very witty. I love that kind of joke. It just cheers you up, that people bother.

  2. Phoebe is adorable! And, I only patronize restaurants that don't serve "frozen and nasty!"

  3. Unknown service provider is, I admit, too vague an approximation. But imagine how creepy it would be if, when you read the sign, it said foot (courtesy of Fran)?

  4. Hello Phoebe! Quite the cutie pie.
I like the shoe mender sign and I'm wondering if people feel calmer visiting a Dental Haven rather than a Dental Surgery.

  5. You'd have thought the shoe mender would have worked in everLASTing, somewhere! Phoebe is gorgeous, by the way. Good to have you back in blogland.

  6. I always remember John Crowe Ransom's changing of Tennyson's "A murmuring of innumerable bees" into "A murdering of innumerable beeves" to show that sound and meaning have to work together to produce a beautiful effect.

    Phoebe is very cute!

    1. Actually, a holiday at the dentist appeals to me. A lot of lying down. Magazines to read. Free toothpaste ... er ... lots of shiny surfaces ... er, definitely running out of ideas here.
