    I'm a very bad person. I voted even though I've never read it. I just clicked on the stars. Is that all it takes to vote? If I'm going to cheat, then I want to make sure I do it right. Being Miss needs to come out as a real book for me to read it. My eyes get too tired for me to read e-books in addition to blogging and editing. I have photophobia, and it doesn't mean I'm scared of photos.

    I love everything you write but , since they didn't have a space for that , I just voted for your book , instead .
    Meanwhile , I'm sitting knitting like Mme. Defarge , as instructed . It's to be hoped that you write quicker than I knit , mind you ...

Evidence that Fran is quite happy to pour cold water on cheerfulness and romance given a spare 20 minutes

We were talking today in the department office at school about the suffix 'ish' and how some are beginning to use it on the end of any word, or even as a word in itself, as in ... 'How was your day?  Good?' [Pause.]  'Ish.' Then we started talking about the word 'meh' and how popular that is now as a way of saying, 'Well, so-so.   Not good.  Not bad.' This kind of linguistic exploration is what English teachers do at the end of the day.  It's either that, or the apostrophe debate.  We know how to party. You might have seen this going around.  It's my favourite cartoon \at the moment. Anyway, then my colleagues and I moved on to musing on songs which use 'meh'.  And I want to suggest a few, perhaps to sing when you're feeling a bit oh-you-know-how-it-is or not-too-bad or things-can-only-get-better ... A response to a complaint from a reader which I hope will satisfy

Isabelle left a comment to say she's fed up of looking at my mould and vomit pictures on the last post and would I get on with writing about something nice, such as flowers?  Some people have no taste, that's all I can say.  Here I am, trying to entertain you, and all I get are complaints. I'll try, Isabelle, but I'm warning you.  I am to Nature what Arsenic in your Tea is to Abundant Health.  Ask anyone who knows me, 'What does Fran know about flowers?' and all you will get is uncontrollable laughter, them doubled over, and a request for a tissue so they can wipe away their tears (or worse, depending on their bladders ... No, it's OKAY.  I'll stop there, as I was trying so hard to avoid body fluids).
