Evidence that even a small stage can support me for a full 20 minutes

Bored?  Here's something to do other than eat your own ear wax.

Check out my new videos at www.youtube.com/bombleybombley and you can see me in action.

The bombleybombley thing?  Er .... long story.  One day I'll tell it.

  1. I can't tell you enough just how much my wife and I enjoyed watching your video. Our son, our only child, is about to leave home (again) and because of you we'll savor these last few weeks much more than we might otherwise have.

  2. Great poem, confident delivery...you're a 'natural', Fran. You wouldn't get me up there, for all the tea in China. I take my hat off to you.

  3. Fran, good to see and hear you. I had a great laugh and joined in the chorus of '62 along with the audience. I am an empty nester and now you've made me think about the reasons why I am surrounded by teddy bears and cats. It's a bit of a worry.

  4. Loved your video, but somehow you looked different than yoir blog picture. Let me think--you shaved, but that's not it. I know--you're wearing glasses in the video! Very becoming.

  5. You got it. babe. You're a star. Polished, professional. No sarky comments. I am in awe.

  6. Excellent...very funny, and I now know what you look like! .

  7. Wonderful! And so much of it rings true; the music coming through the walls, muddy streaks in the soap (how does that happen), and mildewing towels!

    Kids....ain't they wonderful?

Oh, and if you're still missing your son, then just let me have your address; I've got one or two I could stick in the post if you like!

  8. Thanks, everyone, for your comments. Critique of a negative but constructive nature also welcomed - it's all very raw. Tell me if you see anything you think was a bit not-good-enough. (But maybe in a small font ....)

  10. Loved the one about the teenage son - almost choked on the green sherbet. Just waved my first born off to Uni *sobs* and tackled his bedroom *sobbed even more*. And we get to see what you look like. Not a bit like I imagined you....

  11. That was great, Fran! And as Invisible Woman said, you look quite different from the way I'd imagined you. Nice to see you the way you really are. As for the empty nest, I put a horse in mine. You could try that (although their bedrooms are even worse thatn teenagers').

  12. Nice to see you.

I've just watched your video and it made me laugh. Also felt a tad sad at the thought of my daughter leaving home for uni in four years time.

Great delivery. Are you doing more?

  13. Stephen - yes, just enjoy that mildewed sock smell and the dirt in the soap as much as you can until he goes!

Martin - thanks for your comment. The problem is not getting me up on stage but getting me off - I'm such a show-off.

Linens - I love the idea of you joining in with the audience!

fishducky - I always shave for my stage performances.

BadPenny - ah, it's always bittersweet. But well done for getting some practice in.

InvisibleWoman - everyone keeps saying that - 'you're not how we imagined' - am beginning to wonder quite what image I have projected thus far!!

Frances - loved your horse comment. But at least he could keep his shoes on rather than cluttering up the hall with them.

Debbie - Don't start thinking four years ahead! Cross that bridge when you come to it. Thanks for your comments. Doing more? Yes, a few gigs booked up between now and Spring. Exciting!

  14. Thank you for once again brightening my day. Have subscribed to your video so I won't miss out on a bit of, oh so close to the truth, hilarity.

  16. Fran: This was absolutely hilarious and the delivery spot-on. I laughed my way through once, then showed it to my Mom, and we both laughed and laughed . . . of course then I thought, does she perchance remember a Cornish pasty incident from the days before her own empty nest? Hmmmmm . . .

  17. Susan - I love the idea that you and your mother sat and watched my videos and laughed. Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed them.

  18. Fran, you're a wonderful performer, love your videos. I too (boo hoo) was born in the year 19-

Your words were always funny on the page - er, screen - but so much more so live.

  19. Excellent Fran! You have great comic delivery and the Cornish pastie saga is so true - I remember something similar happening to me after I found an old ruck sack of my son's under his bed. No wonder his bedroom stank - and I thought it was just his underpants!

Also - had a bad smell in my kitchen for ages which I couldn't find the source of. Kept looking for the dead mouse - and then one day I opened a drawer and found I'd scraped left over vegetables into a plastic bag and put them into the drawer instead of the bin. Get that one into a poem!!

  20. Mark - that's really kind of you, thank you. And I value your opinion even more, knowing you are a fellow 19shush-er

Jane - I'm even wondering about writing a whole book in which I gather stories about 'what mothers have found in children's rucksacks'. I just have a feeling it's a real go-er. Thanks for your comments on my videos. Appreciated.

  21. Very funny Mum.

(PS - the cornish pasty story is absolutely true.)

SmitandSon - that's kind of you to say. Glad you enjoyed the videos.

  24. I finally got a moment to watch your video. HOW fun to see and hear you, Fran! And I must say, your eyebrows seem perfectly fine to me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. You're Crayon - Thanks! And thanks for saying my eyebrows look okay. Mind you, the hairdresser thought it was a REALLY strange request ...
