Evidence that people about to turn 50 can't cope with change

I don't like this new Blogger look.

It's like walking into a familiar bedroom and finding that someone has moved the wardrobe into the opposite corner, removed the mirror from the dressing table, and replaced the Monet print on the wall above the bed with a modern abstract print called 'Life's Mysteries'.

What's worse is, my memory is so bad these days that I don't remember they've changed Blogger and so I get a new shock every time.

Which reminds me.  Have you read 'Before I Go to Sleep' yet?  That's what happens to the main character - she wakes up every morning and has absolutely no memory of the day before.  It's a brilliant debut (*spits*) and I couldn't put it down.

Just as well, because if I had put it down, I would never have remembered where I'd put it.

That reminds me of something else I was thinking about today.  (Another symptom: rambling.)

Why are these called 'memory sticks' when all we do with them is leave them in computers then wonder where they are?

  1. Not to mention forgetting that you put the only copy of the writing you need in the memory stick, that is in a computer you have no memory of. Probably in a place you can't recall being in.

  2. I feel your pain. I need a memory stick for my brain too.

I've seen a news story on the Today story about a woman who has this same memory problem as the woman in the story you are reading. What a challenge that would be for all those who love her.

    1. Hello RET - I think the book was actually based on a real story the author read.

  3. This is going to be quick because I have to go over to Amazon & look up "Before I go to sleep" before I forget. Although the odds of me forgetting to do something are infinitesmal. My mind's still sharp as a tack. Why, just the other day I...who's calling, please?

    1. You always make me giggle. Please write a book.

  4. I'm with you! I hate the new blogger interface - I can't find anything either. I see it as an exercise in pointlessness. It does the same things as before but now you have to jump through more hoops to find/do what you want and the word verification drives me nuts to the point where I don't bother to continue if it appears.

    1. I feel we are being gently manipulated into 'being used' by Blogger rather than 'using' Blogger ... not that I'm paranoid. In fact, I know I'm not paranoid. All the voices I hear TELL me I'm not paranoid.

  5. Maybe they should be called Forget-Me sticks. I can't remember where mine is at the moment.

  6. I had always heard broccoli was so good for memory. From the sounds of your last blog "they" must be wrong.

    1. Interweb? Isn't that, like, the Secret Service for spiders, or something?

  9. You can go back to old Blogger any time - go to your home page (a poor facsimile of the old 'Dashboard') and click on the little cog in the top right corner - there's an option there to go back to the 'old Blogger interface.' I'm back on the old one because the new one won't let me add imagees... now, if I can juts remember where I filed that pic...

  10. Evidence that being about to turn fifty is inspiring you to write more often than usual - or is it inspiring you to work less?
    Presumably you can't remember...

    1. It's called 'using the need to blog as an excuse for not working'. It's very effective.

  11. I couldn't put that book down either, and thought at the time it was one of the best reads, but alas now I've finished reading it I can't remember what happened!

    1. Ha ha! That's what happens to me with every book I read. Which isn't half inconvenient when you're an English teacher.

  12. Oh, I have this very same birthday just a few weeks away. I'm trying to cope with it by trying new things and keeping VERY busy. It doesn't leave much time to think about the number. Give it a try!

  13. Agree! I'm tired of so many sites changing just to change and not improving the functionality at all. And please stop pestering me to use Dynamic Views! A friend forgot her memory stick was in her laptop and as she was walking through a doorway she hit the door frame and snapped the stick off! My fuzzy memory allows me to enjoy movies over and over again, so that's a win.
