Evidence that I should have been invited to be a member of the Olympic Committee

The 21-year old and I have been watching the Rhythmic Gymnastics in which female gymnasts perform on the floor with various bits of apparatus including

a ribbon

a hoop

a ball

some clubs

We think this looks dead easy.  Anyone can mess around and do a few jumps with a hoop.  We'd like to see a little more challenge introduced so want to suggest some alternative types of apparatus and I'm sending a copy of this blog post to the Olympic Committee so they can make the necessary adjustments to the next Olympic programme.

a ferret

a small child

spaghetti

a Wellington boot

A medium-sized truck

all the ministers in the coalition Cabinet

  1. This would certainly increase the level of difficulty.

    1. And did I mention that the finale would be using all of these at once?

  2. As in wearing wellingtons while carrying an umbrella ?

    1. Carrying? Carrying? You mean, juggling!!

  3. I believe the Olympic Committee has an existing ban on the use of 'all the ministers in the coalition Cabinet', as they are difficult to get hold of and too easily dropped.

    1. Ha ha. Was waiting for someone to say something about that!

    1. I've put a PS on my covering letter to the Committee. They'll be in touch, I'm sure.

  5. I heard those cabinet members can be really slippery... maybe add a note about needing extra chalk?

    1. Done. We'd hate for them to be dropped and out of action for a while, wouldn't we? .... er, wouldn't we?...

  6. Ok. So for the finale, I suggest the cabinet members each place a ferret down one trouser leg and a plate of spaghetti down the other, balance a baby on their head, hop wearing one welly to the getaway vehicle ( the truck) and race to the podium. (Extra points if the ferret finds the spaghetti)

    1. Glad to oblige. Especially if you've got this far without a giggle. Have a great weekend!

  8. Butter must be on hot spaghetti. More of a challenge, don't ya think? And wear the boot on the head? Balancing it could be interesting.

As the competition gets fierce, expect a mandatory meatball to be included in the long program.

  9. I was just glancing at "What I've Just Read." A pox on you for disliking "The Great Gatsby." It's my all-time favorite. I hate Tobias Wolff, and I mean HATE. He's a great writer, but I hate him as a human being. He screwed me over when I was a reporter. He's a knob-assed snob, whatever that means. I love "The Poisonwood Bible."

    Love again,
    Janie

    1. I really must update that list! It's been the same for ages. Sorry about Gatsby and all that. And now I know Wolffy screwed you over I shall hate him too. We are united in Kingsolver love, happily. I'm reading Mark Twain short stories at the moment and absolutely loving him. What a funny satirist. I wish I'd got to him sooner.

    2. You are a true friend to join me in hating THAT MAN, who decided to go swimming during the time I had scheduled an interview with him. (bastard) (dastardly bastardly) Of course, everyone loves Mockingbird. I've never met anyone who didn't love it, some of us more than others. I didn't read Small Island, but it was made into a Masterpiece Theatre mini-series, which was lovely. Congratulations on using "epistolary." When I was a reporter, we used to try to work into our articles some great words, like sycophant, but the editor always caught us and changed them.
